How much does it cost to plant a tree?
Your $5 donation helps plant 3 trees. Government funding covers a significant portion of the overall reforestation costs, while your donation helps cover the remaining funding gap needed to get those trees planted.
What does my donation fund?
Your donation helps cover the shortfall between available government funding and the funding required to get trees in the ground. By helping close that gap, your contribution turns planned reforestation into actual trees planted — allowing every donor dollar to go further.
Where are the trees planted?
Your donation helps plant trees as part of the Manitoba Boreal Forest Restoration Project, restoring areas of Manitoba’s boreal forest impacted by the devastating 2021 wildfires. Native species, including jack pine and black spruce, are planted to help restore the forest and its natural habitat.
Which First Nations communities are involved in the project?
This restoration project is led on the ground in partnership with seven First Nations communities:
- Misipawistik
- Sapotawayek
- Opaskwayak
- Wuskwi Sipihk
- Chemawawin
- Puketawagan
- Mosakahiken
These communities aren’t simply being consulted about work taking place on their traditional lands — they are actively involved in the restoration itself, contributing to project planning, planting crews, seed collection and long-term stewardship. In 2026, the project welcomed its first full Cree planting crew at camp. For us, responsible reforestation means working alongside the communities connected to the land and supporting their active role in restoring it.
Who actually plants the trees?
Planting is coordinated through our reforestation partners Blue Green Planet Project and Summit Planting, with participating First Nations communities actively involved in the work on the ground. This includes First Nations planting crews helping restore areas of Manitoba’s boreal forest affected by wildfire.
Am I donating directly to Blue Green Planet Project?
No. Your donation is made directly to Eternal Virtue, a Canadian registered charity. Eternal Virtue then provides the necessary planting funds to Blue Green Planet Project (BGPP), our reforestation partner, which works with Summit Planting and participating First Nations communities to help get the trees planted.
When will my trees be planted?
Trees are planted during Canada’s primary planting seasons in the spring and fall. Your donation will help plant trees during an upcoming planting season, based on the timing of your donation, planting schedules and site conditions.
How are the trees monitored?
Trees planted through the project are monitored and independently assessed after planting. BGPP uses site-specific planting plans and independent foresters to conduct fall survival assessments, with annual updates and survival assessments published so that planting progress can be tracked over time.
How can I follow the progress of the trees after they are planted?
Our commitment doesn’t end when the trees go into the ground. Summit Planting provides Eternal Virtue with an annual growth and impact report so that we can follow the progress of the forest over time. These reports include information such as aerial views and imagery, photos from the planting area, environmental and growing conditions, survival and growth observations, and other relevant indicators from the site. Eternal Virtue will publish these updates on our website and social media channels, so our donors can continue to see the impact their contributions helped make possible.
